Dr. Su Wai Mon is a Research Fellow in Oceans Law and Policy at the Centre for International Law (CIL), National University of Singapore. She holds a PhD in Maritime Security and Law Enforcement from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
Prior to joining CIL, she served as a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Malaya, where she taught Public International Law and supervised master’s and PhD students. She was also awarded the Certificate of Excellent Service by the University. She successfully secured competitive national research grants from the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia for two consecutive years (2021 and 2022), focusing on the protection of submarine cables and the development of legal and regulatory frameworks for maritime cybersecurity.
Her research interests include the law of the sea, maritime security, maritime cybersecurity, and the governance of critical maritime and undersea infrastructure, with a particular focus on the legal and policy implications of emerging technologies such as autonomous systems, cybersecurity, and submarine cable resilience.
