Maia Brindley Nilsson joined WMU in 2012 and currently serves as Communications and Conference Officer, leading the University’s strategic communications, marketing, publications, media relations, digital presence, and organizational branding. She is responsible for advancing WMU’s visibility and reputation through integrated communications activities, overseeing key institutional publications including the Annual Report and WMU At a Glance, and developing institutional messaging. She also has managerial oversight of the planning and delivery of international conferences and high-level events involving global maritime and ocean stakeholders.
Throughout her tenure at WMU, Ms Brindley Nilsson has supported the University’s global outreach, stakeholder engagement, and development efforts. She works closely with colleagues across the University, external partners, and the International Maritime Organization to promote WMU’s mission of advancing maritime and ocean education, research, and capacity development worldwide.
Prior to joining WMU, Ms Brindley Nilsson held academic leadership positions at the Boston Architectural College, including Head of Continuing Education and Director of Certificate Programs. Earlier professional experience includes work as an architectural designer on university, civic, and institutional projects, as well as teaching in architecture, design, and architectural history.
With a professional background that spans interior design, architecture, historic preservation, higher education administration, strategic communications, and international conference and event management, Ms Brindley Nilsson brings a multidisciplinary perspective to supporting WMU’s international profile and engagement activities.
