Dong Cheng, Ph.D., Professor, joined World Maritime University in 2024 where is appointed as a professor in Maritime Energy Management (MEM), head of ITL and MSEM specializations, and Chinese Chair of the World Maritime University (WMU).

He obtained a master degree in marine engineering in 1999 and a doctoral degree in 2005. He has the experience of working onboard ships and holds the certificate of second engineer.

Before joining WMU, he has been working at Dalian Maritime University (DMU) for almost thirty years. At DMU he served as the Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office and the Vice Dean of Marine Engineering College. This experience gave him a comprehensive understanding of higher education.

At WMU, his teaching and research involves technological and operational measures of maritime decarbonization, including international regulatory framework, alternative fuels, ship’s energy efficiency, onboard carbon capture, nuclear power, anti-fouling, maintenance, etc. He has participated in various IMO, EU and other research projects.
