Carla Fischer is currently a Faculty Support Officer at the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden where she is responsible for the coordination and day-to-day administration of the PhD in Maritime Affairs Programme. Her work includes recruitment, admissions and enrolment processes, course coordination and follow-up, monitoring students' progress, coordinating progression seminars and oral examinations, maintaining programme records and databases and providing administrative support to students and faculty. She also provides logistical and administrative support for workshops, courses, seminars and other academic activities.
Carla holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden and a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation from Ricardo Palma University, Lima, Peru. She has also successfully completed a Project Management course at Lund University, School of Economics and Management. She is fluent in Spanish and English, both spoken and written and has good knowledge of Swedish, Portuguese and French. Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous professional courses and conferences and served as Proceedings Assistant at the English Teaching Training Seminar and Constitution of TESOL Chapter in Peru.
Prior to moving to Sweden, Carla worked as a freelance translator for several translation agencies in Lima and was appointed a Certified Public Translator by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She also served for several years as Public Affairs Assistant at the Embassy of Canada in Lima, Peru, and as Administrative Assistant to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). During her career, Carla successfully organized numerous events, including conferences, education fairs, film festivals and other cultural and academic events involving between 150 and 4 000 participants. In recognition of her outstanding service, she received the Deputy Minister’s Award for Locally Engaged Staff and the Minister’s Citation for Foreign Policy Excellence from the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs in 2001.
